Hi everyone! I realized it's been two years since I last bought a Chanel bag, and I’d like to share why I stopped buying them. However, I still purchase their accessories like wallets and shoes.
The Price Increases
The frequent price hikes have been a major deterrent for me. A few years ago, when I started my collection, Chanel bags like the Wallet on Chain were around 2k SGD, which was much more affordable compared to now. I bought a mini rectangular flap for 4k SGD in Paris, but today, that same bag costs nearly 8k SGD if it’s made of caviar leather. These days, I feel like I have to spend between 6k and 8k SGD just to get a bag from Chanel, and the classic styles are completely out of my price range. The Quality
There have been claims that Chanel’s bag quality has declined. My most recent purchase was a small Coco top handle, and I found the quality to be as expected. However, with these ongoing rumors, I’m uncertain if their newer bags will live up to the price tag.The Alternatives
I’ve started exploring other brands that offer much more affordable prices while maintaining high-quality standards. Brands like Polène, Mansur Gavriel, Senreve, Cuyana, Strathberry, Demellier, Yuzefi, and Songmont are just a few examples. Considering the price and quality they offer, I feel like it’s a much better investment. My Collection is Full
After collecting Chanel bags for around 7 or 8 years, I’ve reached a point where I have all the pieces I want. I’ve figured out which bags I use and which I don’t, letting go of some and keeping others. I feel content with my collection and don’t see the need for any more, especially the seasonal styles. Currently, I own the mini rectangular flap, mini square flap, Wallet on Chain, Deauville tote, Gabrielle, Coco top handle, and a mini vanity bag.
