Escape to Chiang Mai :: Day 2::

On our second day in Chiang Mai, we rent a car to drive outside Chiang Mai town. It's time to drive up the mountain, feeling the cooling weather.

Car rent
We rent from the local shop and they gave us a reasonable price for off-peak season. We got a Honday Jazz for 800THB per day. I found this shop online from a random google search. Follow this link to visit their North City Car Rental website. They can send & collect the car at your hotel with no additional cost.

1. Khuakai Nimman / คั่วไก่นิมมาน

Start with the brunch, we went to Khuakai Nimman at Nimman area. This area is full of famous cafe and restaurants. We went there around 11am. The shop was getting crowded around noon. We ordered one signature dish: Kway Teaw Khuakai (it's like dried version of horfan noodle with egg on top). It is a 'must try' dish and it was very nice (10/10). Other than that, we ordered satay and macaroni prawn.

2. Phuping Palace / ตำหนักภูพิงราชนิเวช

I took tons of pictures at this park. For those who love nature and flowers, this is a place for you to spend hours with. There is a big area of park around the palace. At the entrace, it is 20 for locals and 50 for foreigners. It is strictly to wear polite outfit such as long sleeves and long pants/skirts. There will be free clothes provided if you wear shorts too.

ที่นี่สวยมาก ใครชอบถ่ายรูปธรรมชาติ ดอกไม้ วิวสวยๆนี่แนะนำเลยค่ะ ได้หลายมุม ข้อจำกัดคือต้องแต่งกายสุภาพ เสื้อมีแขน กางเกง กระโปรงคลุมเข่า ถ้าใส่มาแล้วก็มีให้เปลี่ยนฟรี ค่าเข้าคนละ 20 บาท วิวดี ดอกไม้สวย สถานที่กว้างขวาง อากาศร้อนแต่ก็มีลมเย็นๆ สบายๆ

3. Doi Suthep Temple / พระธาตุดอยสุเทพ

Doi Suthep is a must visit place for everybody. The temple is very famous and beautiful. We walked up the stairs to the temple. The entry is not free for foreigners, sorry that I forgot the exact fee. I think it was around 50THB.

ทางเดียวกันกับภูพิงเลย คือดอยสุเทพค่ะ ขับตอนขากลับพอดี คนเยอะมาก ทั้งไทยทั้งต่างชาติ ขึ้นบันไดไปเก๋ๆ พอเหนื่อย เข้าไปเห็นเจดีย์พระธาตุสีทองสวยมาก

4. Lucky Bunny Cafe

After visiting the temple, we head to the Lucky Bunny Cafe before dinner. The cafe closes earlier than its indicated timing at 6pm. We were there like 5pm and it was already the last group to play the rabbits. At this cafe, you can order your drinks or cakes first, then go up to watch rabbit show. You need to pay around 200THB to see the show and play the rabbits which I think it was kind of expensive. After the show, we got to play with rabbits from many breeds by feeding them and training them as well. There will be an instructor to take care of all the process.

คาเฟ่นี้หามาจากรีวิวไหนสักที่ คิดว่าอยากหาคาเฟ่แปลกใหม่ ที่ไม่ใช่หมาแมว ก็มาเจอกระต่ายนี่แหละ ร้านหายากนิดหน่อยค่ะ ขับมาตาม google map เป็นร้านเล็กๆ ชั้นล่างเป็นคาเฟ่ ชั้นบนเป็นกระต่าย ก่อนอื่นคือสั่งอาหารก่อนเลย หรือไม่สั่งก็ได้ แล้วขึ้นไปดูกระต่ายเลย ด้านบนก็จะเป็นโชว์ของกระต่าย โดยมีครูฝึกมาสอน หลังโชว์ก็จะได้กระต่ายไปคนละตัว ให้อาหารแล้วก็ลองฝึกกระต่ายให้มานั่งบนตัก อ้อ ดูโชว์กับเล่นกระต่ายนี่จ่ายคนละ 200 นะคะ เราว่าแพงนะเนี่ย แต่นานๆทีก็ลองดู

5. Tha Pae Walking Street / ตลาดท่าแพ

Tha Pae Walking Street is a Sunday night market in Chiang Mai. It covers a large area, along Tha Pae street. As usual, there will be local food, drawing, crafts, clothes, and Thai music performance too. We had dinner here and some local snacks. The market starts from evening like 6pm until late night.

ถึงเวลาอาหารเย็นก็มุ่งหน้าไป ตลาดนัดทันที อาหารอร่อย ถูก และดี เริ่มด้วยก๋วยเตี๋ยวเรือ ขนมเบื้อง และอีกมากมาย ทั้งเสื้อผ้าแฟชั่นหรือสไตล์เหนือๆ งานฝีมือ และนี่เป็นครั้งแรกที่เดินตลาดนัดท่าแพ คือตลาดใหญ่มาก ยอมรับว่าเดินไม่หมดอ่ะ ขาลากมากจริงๆ

6. Roof Top Bar - Maya Shopping Center

Before heading back to the hotel, we stopped over roof top bar for some drinks. There are many roof top bars in Chiang Mai but we chose Nimman Hill on top of Maya Shopping Mall as it is near to our hotel. Up on the roof, there are 3-4 bars to choose from. We had a beer and cocktail there. I had a cocktail but it wasn't that nice, alcohol was way too strong and cannot even feel any sweetness. However, the scenary and environment is very relaxing and chilling.

ไม่ยอมจบวันง่ายๆ มื้อดึกวันนี้ต่อที่ roof top bar ของห้างเมญ่า ชั้นบนสุดชื่อว่า Nimman Hill บนนี้จะมีบาร์ให้เลือกประมาน 3-4 ที่ ได้นั้งเห็นวิวเชียงใหม่ แบบชิวๆสบายๆ เสียงเพลงกำลังดี สั่งเบียร์กับ cocktail มา แต่ cocktail แรงไปหน่อยนะ แต่บรรยากาศดี

Escape to Chiang Mai :: DAY 1 ::

สวัสดีค่า วันนี้จะมารีวิวทริปไปเชียงใหม่ 3 คืน 4 วัน โดยใช้รถไฟไทยขบวนใหม่ ทั้งขาไปขากลับเลย พลอยไปเชียงใหม่ช่วงมีนาคมค่ะ กำลังร้อนได้ที่เลย แต่กลางคืนก็ถือว่าสบายๆนะ


Hello there!
I have been to Chiang Mai, Thailand during 3 - 7 March 2017. Winter was already ended by the time I went, however, I still found that there are many places to visit for this trip. This will be a 4 days 3 nights trip to Chiang Mai...

Weather 
It was hot during the day time but we enjoyed cooling weather at night. I read from the local webboard that it might be hazy during March-April, but I didn't encounter the haze during my trip.

How to get there 
From Bangkok, you can buy an air ticket from AirAsia, Nok Air, Thai Smile, etc. The price is reasonable at SGD80+ round trip. However, this time, I decided to choose the 'new Thai train' to Chiang Mai, costed around the same as air ticket. The main reason is, I never tried this new train before and it was awesome experience. I will write another seperate review on that soon.

รถไฟถึงเชียงใหม่ประมาน 7 โมงกว่าๆ เลยใช้บริการสองแถวไปเช็คอินโรงแรม พลอยพักที่ The Prestige Chiang Mai ค่ะอยู่ใกล้ๆห้างเมญ่ากับโซนนิมมาน เพราะว่าเช้าไปโรงแรมยังไม่ให้เข้าค่ะ55 เลยออกมาลุยเที่ยวตัวเมืองกันเลย งานนี้เน้นกินเน้นวิว

We reached Chiang Mai at 7:15am, we chose red Song Teaw (local red transport) 75 baht/pax to our hotel (The Prestige Chiang Mai) [Tips: I found that if we use Uber, it will cost only 70 baht for two persons to our hotel!]. It was too early for hotel check-in. So we dropped our luggage at the hotel and rent a bike at 300 baht/day to explore Chiang Mai town.

1. Kai Ka Ta ไข่กระทะ

ร้านนี้เปิดแต่เช้าเลย มี set อาหารเช้าให้เลือก เมนูเยอะมากเลือกแทบไม่ถูก เลยลองสั่งมา 2 sets เป็นไข่กระทะ กับชาเย็น และนมเย็น ร้านเล็กๆราคาปานกลาง เสริฟเร็ว จ่ายไป 125 บาท

As this shop opens very early, we ordered 1 egg pan, 1 breakfast set (egg pan + a mini bread) and two drinks (bandang pink milk and thai milk tea). In one small pan, you can choose what topping you want on the egg. I choose the one with minced pork, sausage, parsley, fried onion. Orders came very fast, the food was nice and cheap - 125 baht for whole breakfast.

2. Wat Lok Moli วัดโลกโมฬี

ก่อนอาหารกลางวันมาไหว้พระ ชมศิลปะเมืองเหนือที่วัดนี้ ชอบวัดนี้ตรงที่สร้างด้วยไม้ ให้ความรู้สึกเก่า คลาสสิก ดีมาก ที่จริงมีหลายวัดที่แนะนำกันนะคะ ที่เลือกวัดนี้เพราะอยู่ในเมือง และใกล้กับที่ๆจะไปในเส้นทางเดียวกัน

Before lunch time, I was attracted by art and style of this temple. It is a classic Northern style temple. The building was made of woods which is different from other temples in the same area. I think this one is one of the most beautiful temples in Chiang Mai town due to its unique oldish look.

3. Kao Soi Nimman ข้าวซอยนิมมาน

ขนาดไปตอน 11 โมง ช่วง low season ยังต้องต่อคิว โด่งดังจริงๆนะเนี่ย ร้านร่มรื่นดีค่ะ ข้าวซอยเราว่าอร่อยนะคะ มีหลาย topping ให้เลือก แต่เราสั่งข้าวซอยไก่ธรรมดา ขนาดที่คุณแฟนสั่งแบบจัดเต็มคือมีไข่เจียว กุ้ง เห็ด อะไรสารพัดเราจำไม่หมดนะ เค้ามีหลายอย่างให้เลือก

Kao Soi is a local famous dish we won't miss. One of the famous restaurants is Kao Sai Nimman. The restaurant is like a spacious house with surrounding area. You can choose up to 5 toppings but I went for the classic chicken Kao Soi while my boyfriend chose all 5 toppings. It was spicy to me but nice. If you don't take spicy, this dish might be too spicy for you. Do note to come early, we still need to queue even the off-peak season.

4. Night Market ตลาดนัดกลางคืน ถนนวัวลาย

ใครมาช่วงเสาร์อาทิตย์ห้ามพลาดตลาดนัด ถนนคนเดิน ตลาดใหญ่มาก ของกินของขายเยอะไปหมด วันเสาร์มีที่ถนนวัวลาย อาทิตย์มีที่ถนนท่าแพ ใหญ่พอกันทั้งสองวัน เดินทีเมื่อยมากจริงๆ

On every Saturday and Sunday night, there is a walking street. For Saturday, it is at Wui Lai street. We head to the market around 6pm. There was very crowded around the area. We decided to have dinner there too, ordered tom yum noodle and mango smoothie.  The night market is a great place for local food and shopping.

5. Guu Fusion Roti & Tea กูโรตีชาชัก

เดินตลาดเสร็จเติมพลังต่ออีก ถึกทนกันมากๆ ไม่เหน็ดไม่เหนื่อยค่ะวันนี้ ส่วนตัวเราชอบร้านนี้นะคะ มีเมนูให้เลือกเยอะ โรตีอร่อยด้วย ชอบสุดก็คือชาร้อนฟรี ช่วยให้กินโรตีสะดวกขึ้น555 คือมันทำให้ไม่เลี่ยนจนเกินไป เพราะโรตีก็หวานมากๆ

This shop opens until late night - 1:30am. So we decided to stop over and had a night meal here after the walking street. There are many choices of roti to order from the menu. We ordered the creamy one, milo topping roti and original roti. For the creamy roti, we found it is a whipping cream flavour more than a sweet thick cream. The milo topping roti and original roti are very nice. Another thing that we like about it was a free hot tea. It really helps when you eat too many sweet stuffs.

6. Rincome Night Market กาดรินคำ

ระหว่างทางกลับโรงแรม ก็แวะซะหน่อย ตลาดดูเงียบๆในวันนี้นะคะ ดูเหมือนคนจะไปถนนคนเดินกันหมด ของขายไม่เยอะ หลายร้านไม่เปิด

Another stop over tonight was Rincome night market. We have been here before, the price is reasonable but not very cheap. Tonight, it was a little quiet. There was a few foreigners and locals. Some shops were closed. Probably, most people go to the walking street in town during weekend. This market is usually opened from 5-11pm everyday.
